EIGHTH ANNUAL LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK OBSERVED MARCH 28-APRIL 3
Raising Awareness About Unique Health Care Concerns of the LGBT Community
Washington, DC - The eighth annual National LGBT Health Awareness Week will take place from March 28 to April 3, 2010. The week includes several events nationwide organized by health advocates and organizations that serve the LGBT community in order to raise awareness about the unique health concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. National LGBT Health Awareness Week is coordinated by the National Coalition for LGBT Health, a Washington, DC-based organization that drives the inclusion of LGBT health concerns in federal health policy.
"National LGBT Health Awareness Week serves to draw attention to the continuing issues of health disparities and inequities that affect the LGBT community, said Rebecca Fox, Executive Director of the National Coalition. "This year, with healthcare reform finally being signed into law, we hope that federal, state, and local governments will take concrete steps to be fully inclusive of the needs of our community."
