HIV Prevention Through Sexual Agreements Between Gay Men in Couples

March 27, 2013

While a majority of gay couples appear to work out agreements on allowable sexual behavior outside the relationship, only about half honor the agreement.  A study from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor electronically polled 361 male couples through paid Facebook ads and published their findings in the Journal of Sex Research. Stop Shaming Our Youth with HIV/AIDS

David Mixner,

Over the last several weeks, coming to my attention were stories about people being extremely hard on young LGBT youth who had sero-converted to an HIV/AIDS status. The trauma and fear they must feel has to be overwhelming. Being young and discovering you have a disease is never an easy road. This is the time that any individual needs love, compassion and assistance. Read the full blog entry: Stop Shaming Our Youth

Mondo's Mission: The intersection of truth, design, and advocacy

Posted by Project NEON on March 12, 2013 10:22 AM

By Sue Saltmarsh, Positively Aware

He'd never planned to go on Project Runway and talk about his HIV status. Mondo Guerra had kept it secret, even from his family, for a decade. But he found himself on that runway lying about the inspiration behind his work and feeling the emptiness of betraying himself, wishing the judges (and everyone else) could know the whole story. What happened as he pointed to the plus signs in the fabric of the pants he'd designed and told the world he'd been HIV-positive for 10 years changed his life irrevocably in many ways. Read on... Two Condom Bills Introduced in California Assembly

Published by  POZ Magazine, March 6, 2013

Two condom-related bills have been introduced in the California Assembly, according to the Bay Area Reporter. Introduced by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco), AB 336 would stop police and prosecutors from using possession of one or more condoms to arrest and prosecute alleged prostitution suspects. Advocates have argued that using condoms as evidence for prostitution is bad public health policy because it puts sex workers and their clients at risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. AB 332 would require condom use in all adult films. Introduced by Assemblymember Isadore Hall (D-Los Angeles), the bill is backed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which successfully campaigned to require condom use in all adult films made in Los Angeles County.

Gastrointestinal Complications of Methamphetamine Abuse

Posted March 4, 2013 by Drug Addiction Treatment

Like most other stimulant drugs of abuse, methamphetamine is widely known for its potential to cause serious disruptions of normal function in the cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels), as well as in the central nervous system. However, use/abuse of the drug also produces disruptions in the normal function of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which forms the body's passageway for nutrient intake and the elimination of food wastes. Most meth users only develop relatively minor changes in their gastrointestinal health; however, some users of the drug develop severe, potentially fatal GI problems.
